Marijuana Goes Mainstream| 2021 OSIA Virtual Annual Conference | Day 2, Session 6

From Reefer Madness to Cheech & Chong, marijuana as occupied a unique space in American culture, being both vilified and celebrated for years.  Now, more quickly than many expected, marijuana has gone mainstream.  With more and more states legalizing marijuana for medical use, or increasingly for recreational use, employers must be prepared to deal with changing attitudes, laws, and impacts of this drug in the workplace.


Shane M. Dawson, Esq, is a partner in the Columbus office of the national law firm of Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP.  At Dinsmore, he focuses his practice on representing employers in workers’ compensation claims as well as related employment law matters.  Prior to joining Dinsmore, Shane managed his own firm for more than 12 years.  Now in practice as an attorney for over 23 years, his first lessons in Ohio workers’ compensation were as a criminal investigator and fraud analyst for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation while working through law school.  Shane received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University in 1992 and earned his law degree from Capital University Law School in 1996.
